I know I’ve been super inconsistent with blog posts and I’m sorry to those of you who have been checking up on the blog to see new content. I have been taking some time for myself but I’ve decided to get back into the swing of things and write more regularly on the blog.
So, to kick things off I decided to give you some January updates. I love January because a new year is so exciting to me. A fresh start is like turning a page in a book to find a new, unexplored chapter and I am all about new beginnings. So, here are a few things I’ve added to my life lately that have positively impacted me. I encourage you to do the same and never stop improving yourself.
- Painting. I’ve been painting much more these days and I love it. I recently made the sign below and I added some vintage vibes to it by making it a little imperfect. Painting is so fun for me because I get to shut off my brain for a bit and just be creative. Sometimes, it doesn’t turn out well but I think that’s half the fun of it.
2. Podcasts. I’ve mentioned before on the blog that I love podcasts but I have been listening to Oprah’s podcast more and more and I truly love it. It’s called Oprah’s SuperSoul Conversations. I listen on Spotify but there’s many ways you can listen. She has on such inspirational guests and I always think the message can help me (and you!) in some way.
3. Poetry. I’ve definitely mentioned poetry on this blog before because I love it. But I know poetry isn’t for everyone. However, I think there’s something so nice about reading your feelings in a way that you can’t quite express. Jhene Aiko is a singer who just came out with her own poetry book 2Fish. Also, Rupi Kaur just came out with her second poetry book, The Sun and Her Flowers. Her first book, Milk and Honey, has become extremely popular. I have all of these books and together, these books inspire me to write my own poetry too!
4. Brunch. I know this is so basic of me but getting brunch with a girlfriend (or a few) is one of the best things in the world to me. It’s more fun than getting dinner or drinks for a few reasons. First, you’re not worried about time constraints or loud music or getting drunk. You can just go meet up with a friend and catch up, vent, and talk about anything and everything. Plus, even on a Saturday or Sunday, it makes you feel productive to get out of the house and get ready to go somewhere. I hate weekend days where I don’t end up doing anything.
So, those are just some things I’ve been doing to make my days a little better and brighter. I think mental health is something that we should all focus on taking care of as much as possible. Like a plant, we have to water it and check on it. If you feel down (winter can do that!) or just in a funk, try to pull yourself out of it with some poetry or painting or anything that makes you feel happy. Comment below with any tips and tricks that you use to make your days better. xx
