Last week I made these little chia protein balls and peeps loved them. And I really loved them too. As I was scrolling through instagram, as usual, I noticed that a lot of people used unusual ingredients in their own energy balls. I saw beets in one, berries in another, and one with… you guessed it, matcha. I was so intrigued and when I stopped by Trader Joes that night, I grabbed some of my own to try out in a new recipe.
I created this recipe from scratch on my own and while the other recipe had peanut butter and dark chocolate to keep it sweet and savory, I wanted this recipe to be filled with really healthy ingredients to burn off fat and keep you full and energized all at once.
So, what is matcha? Glad you asked! It’s technically a tea and it is packed with so much goodness. It’s filled with antioxidants, boosts your metabolism, naturally detoxifies you, is rich in fiber and chlorophyll, and provides you with so many vitamins from vitamin C to zinc and magnesium. So basically this stuff is pure gold.
My dad personally thought these tasted “too healthy” but I think they are perfect for a snack and a good addition to some matcha tea or a turmeric latte. I’ve been seeing those EVERYWHERE lately so I might give it a try this week.
Oh also, I added a scoop of collagen to these. Collagen reduces wrinkles and cellulite, improves bone and muscle health, and helps to promote a healthy immune and digestive system woo!! There’s a discount for you cool blog readers under the recipe list 😉
Recipe:
- 1/2 cup sliced almonds
- 1/3 cup chia seeds
- 1/2 cup oats
- 1/4 cup of Trader Joe’s nut butter
- 1/3 cup of matcha tea (you could up this to 1/2 cup!)
- 1 scoop of Furtherfood collagen (use code RICEANDREPEAT10 at checkout for a discount on this!!)
- 1 banana
- Pour all these ingredients into a mixer and blend it all up! Use a spoon to scoop out the dough and form little balls on wax paper. Then, pop these into the fridge and wait a few hours as they form. Enjoy!!
I am absolutely trying these! I always make energy balls when I take road trips, but I never thought to include matcha. Love this!

These sound awesome – I love matcha! I’m currently Paleo so I may have to look up some substitutions for the oats, but otherwise I can’t wait to try them out!
